Awayside is a 17th century cottage and lies close to the river Otter in the picturesque village of Newton Poppleford just 3 miles from the Regency town of Sidmouth. Beautiful unspoilt Budleigh Salterton is 15 minutes away and the sandy beaches of Exmouth 20 minutes away. We are within easy reach of Westpoint showground, Bicton Park and Woodbury Park Golf and Country Club.

Ottery St. Mary with its flaming tar barrels on November 5th and Honiton famous for its pottery, antiques and lace are also within easy reach.

Walkers

There is an extensive network of footpaths and bridleways, giving access to some beautiful country walks. Newton Poppleford and Harpford are situated on the East Devon Way.  Explore the coastal paths and sensational panoramic views of the Exe, Axe and Otter estuaries. Experience the peaceful silence of the East Devon commons, with its vast areas of heather and gorse.

Follow the River Otter to Budleigh Salterton and you will find an abundance of wildlife and every type of bird, from the majestic swans to the humble thrush and, if you're lucky, beautiful Kingfishers.

Where Are We ?

We are conveniently situated just 30 minutes from the city of Exeter, 15 minutes from Exeter International Airport and 20 minutes from the M5.

How To Find Us

From The M5

urn off at Junction 30 and take the first exit which is signposted to Exmouth & Sidmouth. This will take you onto a short dual carriage way. You will come to another roundabout. Take the 2nd exit to Sidmouth & Westpoint. This Road is the A3052. Stay on the A3052 until you come to Newton Poppleford. Drive through the village past the (pedestrian) traffic lights and down the hill, you will pass a fabric shop on your right and then a short row of hedges, turn immediately right at the end of the hedgerow and then right again and you will find a long blue cottage - Awayside.

From the A30 Honiton

Take the turning to Ottery St. Mary, then the sign post to Sidmouth, travel until you come to the Bowd Inn which will be on your left. At the junction turn right onto the A3052. This will take you directly to Newton Poppleford. You will go over the River Otter and on your left you will see Otter Reach, pass this exit then immediately after, turn left at the Moor View entrance sign on the roadside, then immediately right and you will see a long blue cottage. Park outside and you will find a warm welcome within.
